Photo Personal geiger counter indicates radiation level 1.8 times higher than public monitoring post

A Minamisoma citizen talked a public monitoring post shows the radiation level lower than a personal geiger counter. He posted the picture below. It was taken in the afternoon of 6/24/2014 and the location is the temporary storage area, which Fukushima Diary wrote about in the previous article. West Coast Covered In Massive 3 11 Radiation

Asked why the government officials only expanded the evacuation zones in increments, [Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Tetsuro Fukuyama] told committee members that it was feared that major traffic jams could ensue [...] Asked why the officials did not issue an evacuation order for people living in a radius of 20 km to 30 km from the plant, Fukuyama suggested they instead were ordered to remain indoors as an emergency response, because it was estimated that it could take four to five days to evacuate all the 140,000 residents Read More »

8x More Babies Born Without Brains Near U.S. Nuclear Site Hanford

Serious and sometimes fatal birth defects are much more prevalent right here than anywhere else in the country. Benton, Franklin and Yakima Counties are being hit the hardest by neural tube defects, from spina bifida to anencephaly [fatal defect where large part of brain/skull is missing]. “it’s scary that the cause of this is such a mystery,” said Candelaria Murillo. […] Rate of babies being born without a brain in our part of the state is eight times the national average. Read More »

Fukushima is human-engineered crisis that threatens health of Pacific Ocean - expert

Japan starting constructing an underground ice wall at the crippled Fukushima nuclear plant, freezing the soil under broken reactors to slow the build-up of radioactive water. The Nuclear Regulation Authority, the national watchdog, last week authorised construction of the ice wall at Fukushima Daiichi, owned and operated by Tokyo Electric Power (TEPCO). The Voice of Russia talked to Dr. Majia Nadesan, Professor at Arizona State University’s New College. Read More »

Vitamin E could protect you from radiation

Vitamin E could protect you from radiation

Worried about the potential risks of radiation exposure? A member of the vitamin E family found in palm oil might prove to be the solution to this problem.  WE are all radioactive. According to the World Nuclear Association (WNA), an average adult weighing about 70kg undergoes 4,550 nuclear disintegrations per second due to the natural radioactive elements within our own ... Caught On Camera: Fire At Fukushima?

Caught On Camera Fire At Fukushima

We are by no means experts at identifying instances of fire caught on camera under low illumination conditions, but the following compressed 3 minute video from the official Tepco YouTube feed (where 1 second of the clip represents 20 seconds in real time) showing the Fukushima nuclear power plant between 8:00pm and 9:00 pm last night, and particularly the segment 1:16 into the clip and continuing for about 30 seconds (or about 6 minutes in the real world), certainly looks disturbing. Marine mammals mysteriously dying in record numbers along West Coast

More sick and dying animals are washing up on the coast of California, with new reports indicating record numbers of young sea lions, seals, and other marine mammals being admitted to care shelters for rehabilitation. The Orange County Register reports that the only facility in the county licensed to care for marine mammals is now at capacity, and that other facilities all along the coastline are being similarly inundated. Record high radiation in sea water off Fukushima plant

Radiation has spiked to all-time highs at five monitoring points in waters adjacent to the crippled Fukushima No. 1 power station, plant operator Tokyo Electric Power Co. said Friday. The measurements follow similar highs detected in groundwater at the plant. Officials of Tepco, as the utility is known, said the cause of the seawater spike is unknown. Read More »

Fukushima Study – Deaths, Mutations Up Dramatically

Fukushima Study - Deaths, Mutations Up Dramatically

Smithsonian Magazine, May 14, 2014: Even Tiny Amounts of Radioactive Food Made Caterpillars Become Abnormal Butterflies [...] Researchers in Japan [...] discovered, even a small amount of radiation is too much. [...] The scientists collected plant material from around Fukushima and fed it to pale grass blue butterfly caterpillars. When the caterpillars turned into butterflies, they suffered from mutations and were more likely to die early [... even if they] had only eaten a small amount of artificial caesium [...] In other words, things don’t look good for the animals living around Fukushima.
