Caldicott – Fukushima Radiation NEVER Stop Flowing Into Ocean

Caldicott - Fukushima Radiation NEVER Stop Flowing Into Ocean

Dr. Helen Caldicott: There seems to be no end in sight for this dreadful catastrophe. About 300 to 400 tons of radioactive water per day are pouring into the Pacific, have been for the last 3 years, and will continue probably for the rest of time because no one can find out where the molten cores of a hundred of seethingly hot uranium are. No one can get near them because they’re so radioactive, and the water will continue to flow over them, I guess, forever more. I can’t see any other way out of it. [...] I had the same reaction as you when two days after the tsunami and earthquake occurred [...] I got this feeling in the pit of my stomach [...] there is simply nothing anyone can do about it. And people are asking me all the time what can I take, what nutrients can I take? There’s nothing you can take to remove the radioactive elements from your body once you’ve eaten them. Read More »

U.S. Nuclear Agency Hid Concerns, Hailed Safety Record as Fukushima Melted

U.S. Nuclear Agency Hid Concerns, Hailed Safety Record as Fukushima Melted

In the tense days after a powerful earthquake and tsunami crippled the Fukushima Daiichi power plant in Japan on March 11, 2011, staff at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission made a concerted effort to play down the risk of earthquakes and tsunamis to America’s aging nuclear plants, according to thousands of internal emails reviewed by NBC News. The emails, obtained via the Freedom of Information Act, show that the campaign to reassure the public about America’s nuclear industry came as the agency’s own experts were questioning U.S. safety standards and scrambling to determine whether new rules were needed to ensure that the meltdown occurring at the Japanese plant could not occur here. Video: Fukushima Radiation Forecast Puts West Coast on Alert

Video Fukushima Radiation Forecast Puts West Coast on Alert

American scientists beware that radiation from Japan's leaking Fukushima nuclear power plant could reach Pacific coast in the nearest future. Ken Buesseler, a chemical oceanographer at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution on Cape Cod, Mass., reported that four coastal monitoring sites in California and Washington have detected no traces of radiation from the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant destruction - "not yet," he said during a telephone press briefing, but noted that it might reach the coast by April. Fukushima Update – Yet Another Leak

Fukushima Update – Yet Another Leak

More disturbing news from the damaged Fukushima nuclear plant in Japan – a new radioactive leak has occurred. According to the operator of the plant, another 100 metric tons of contaminated water burst from a tank on February 19 of this year, which is the worst leak the plant has seen since last August when the situation at Fukushima became an international headline. Nuclear regulators misled the media after Fukushima, emails show

Nuclear regulators misled the media after Fukushima, emails show

Emails obtained by journalists at NBC News reveal that officials at the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission — the government agency that oversees reactor safety and security — purposely misled the media after the Fukushima, Japan disaster in 2011. On Monday this week — one day shy of the third anniversary of the Fukushima meltdown — NBC published emails obtained through a Freedom of Information Act that for the first time exposes on a major scale the efforts that NRC officials undertook in order to diminish the severity of the event in the hours and days after it began to unfold. More than 100 Navy members struggle for justice as radiation slowly kills them

More than 100 Navy members struggle for justice as radiation slowly kills them

When a historic earthquake created a massive tsunami that destroyed part of the Fukushima Daiichi power station in northern Japan in March 2011, causing meltdowns at three of the plant's six nuclear reactors, a radiological disaster ensued. As part of the effort to control damage and lend assistance, President Barack Obama ordered the U.S. Navy to respond to what would become the worst nuclear accident since the Chernobyl disaster in the former Soviet Union in the mid-1980s. TEPCO Admits Fukushima Radiation “Significantly” Undercounted

TEPCO Admits Fukushima Radiation Significantly Undercounted

From April to September of 2013, as Bloomberg reports, TEPCO admits that levels of radiation measured from water samples around the destroyed Fukushima nuclear reactor were "significantly undercounted." We assume it was mere coincidence that during this very time Shinzo Abe proclaimed the 2020 Olympics would be safe and used many of these readings as evidence. In addition to this debacle, The BBC reports, the likely scale of the radioactive plume of water from Fukushima due to hit the west coast of North America should be known in the next two months; and rather stunningly, The Japan Times reports a new study finds the lifetime risk of developing cancer has risen among 1-year-old girls in an area affected by the nuclear crisis at the Fukushima No. 1 power plant. But apart from that, everything's great. Read More »

US Govt Knows Fukushima Is A Worldwide Disaster

olumnist Annette Sommers, Feb. 25, 2014: In a few months, the devastating effects of the Fukushima nuclear disaster will officially taint America’s reputation. [...] Of course, all this information is just now circulating through the media because it’s finally a time-sensitive threat. Read More »
